I engage a bit in social media but, from experience, I would suggest the following: Firstly bear in mind posting isn't secure (not even for politicians). Posts are like postcards and all of it is stored by Government. Likewise, literally hundreds of younger people have been blackmailed over internet pornography, hacked or whatever.
Also it may sound stuffy but I feel pretty sure Social Media is as damaging as obesity due to sheer excessive use. Put out a post on any of those sites on anything scientific or connected to arts and watch the response. Zero. Conversations stick around trivial, routine gossip and porno channels or whatever. Yes, I joined an adult site months ago and I'm not a prude. I'm just careful to make it 20 per cent of my internet use - the rest is educational or news. So now I see that guy just staring at a screen and laughing out loud with a glassy stare. Some even jump up and down. One very young teen girl reads out her typed messages to strangers on Facebook with her friends. All of it can be accessed by third parties.

I think social media is damaging the way it's being used. I think it was Temple Grandin who addressed this issue a while ago. I mean, I can't help but notice how people everywhere seem to live around Facebook, Twitter, Ebay as well as mobile phones. Science or chemistry or physics seem to have become extinct. Arts and music also fallen by the wayside. Added to that, internet isn't safe. Last I heards some mobile phones have had spy software installed. I tend to be very wary because nothing on the internet is secure and shortly (if not already) it will be used by government agencies to profile people. Even worse, I now see people staring at computer screens in public, rocking or just laughing.

First and foremost 'the internet' is not just 'social media' that is just one element of the internet.

The internet is as safe/unsafe as anywhere, ultimately life isn't safe, and you are unlikely to die by using the internet, I am not talking about morons who walk under buses 'cause they are looking at their phones... that is morons/life being unsafe (possibly natural selection at work), but the internet itself is not unsafe to your physical health.

I think the internet is a wonderful thing, I use it to; connect with people I have things in common with, connect with people I have nothing in common with, discover new artists/musicians, learn about science, learn about my hobbies/interests, learn about history, learn about me, learn about my health, get recipes from around the world, discover new books and authors, connect with fellow readers, shop, research before I buy, connect with fellow aspies, learn about ideologies that I agree with, learn about ideologies that I disagree with. I even use it to make phone calls and video chat with my partner, family and close friends. All that for the price of my internet subscription, do you have any idea how much it would cost me if I had to buy books to do all of that, hell I wouldn't even know what books to buy for most of the random sh*t I look up, not to mention the stress of having to go out and deal with people/shops etc.

If people are watching things that make them laugh that is a good thing... as a society we need more laughter and joy.

Finally, yet again I am at a loss as to why you posted that comment in this thread... this thread is about porn and the laws regarding it (and possibly wicca) what does that have to do with social media? I don't know why I am even asking as you never answer my queries. I can kind of understand the internet comments but I have no idea the link to social media. Also ebay is not social media it is a shop/auction site

If you hate the internet so much what are you doing here?

Funny you should ask.....
I am indeed phasing out internet. I am looking at very old stuff like CW on amateur radio and WWV. I agree the internet in theory ought to be the best thing since sllced bread. Yet it isn't. It's now totally controlled by the US government and use is both monitered and filed. And the biggest gripe I have is it displaced inventiveness and creativity by making people lazy. So rather than read solid informatve content, time is spent on Flopbook or whatever. As to porn, I'm not narrow minded but it's a bit of a waste of time better spent. It's not as if you're getting any creative, erotic content. Such as Japanese erotica which is a least artistic. Books cost little these days. Mine gives them away as few people bother to read. For David the works of Blavatskiy would be a lot deeper if he's interested in occult.

You can chose to use the internet in whatever way you want, it doesn't have to make you lazy or common place. It can broadening your mind, help creativity and anything else you can think of. You just have to use it in that way.

Yet again you have made a statement as fact which I have never heard of before except on conspiracy sites. The US Government does NOT control the whole internet, that is a ludicrous claim (kind of like saying the US Government controls the deployment of UK nukes).

Well certainly not all use but to be honest I don't particularly care if 'they' whoever they are know what I am looking at online, they must be very bored if they have to actually check that stuff out.

I have no idea what you are doing on the internet but you seem to be missing a hell of a lot, there are entire online industries dedicated to allowing people to fund the inventiveness and creativity of 'people'.

Again, I don't know why you are so obsessed with something you clearly dislike... if you don't like Facebook or social media... don't use it, if other people do like it... leave them alone. To be honest I am not a big fan of Facebook, I occasionally go on there if I am bored and looking to ahem debate someone but generally I use the internet to access 'informative content'.

Earlier you said you recently subscribed to a porn service (even though you have stated elsewhere that you don't want to be a slave to your biological/sexual urges), why are you paying for something that doesn't meet with your requirements? I'm not sure why you are paying for it at all... porn is free on the internet! But I am certain there are porn services available that meet what you define as creative/erotic, find one of those and stop paying for something you don't like.

Books are still quite expensive actually, I would know as an avid reader (here is a link to just the 'new fiction' I read in 2016), I work my way through well over 10 books a month, when these books average £7-9 each for paperbacks that have been available for a while, god forbid you want to buy it when it's hot of the press, and eBook prices are hard linked to the current physical version price (usually £1-3 less than whatever the most recent edition is so still at least £15 if it's still in hardback format) even though there are literally no publishing costs involved in eBooks. So no books are not cheap. Also of course libraries are closing.

See now perhaps if you spent less time looking at porn and getting angry at Facebook and ebay, you would have discovered some of the overwhelming number of sites, forums etc that are dedicated to books, book genres, authors and book lovers. GoodReads would be one example, then there are no end of reddits for various genre's even some that are dedicated to a specific author or series. So again this statement of fact you have made is not really accurate... many people like to read and even like to talk about this on the internet.

I will come back to this later. However, for now, let me clarify I do not subscribe to porn channels or websites whatsoever. I did join a pretty boring but chic adult site but it's free. Even so I dislike porn because it's a bit like rap compared to real music. I did once get into a D/s newsletter group (back around 2004 or around). Back the though it was more erotic and tactful with even Madonna doing her Erotica material.
On the other point, check out the Gary Mckinnon story. He had Aspergers and was almost extradited to an American jail. He was traced right back to his bedroom PC.

Actually given the low functioning level of the internet these days a flopbook.com site would probably become as big as the giants. Geared towards swapping accounts of the bedroom flop syndrome, cures and support chats. My girlfriend swore by oysters.

Gary McKinnon is a hacker... he broke the law and the crime he committed was again the U.S... OF COURSE he got extradited, we are allies of the U.S. they would do that for us too if an American hacker hacked the U.K. government.

"Again I don't know why you are so obsessed with something you clearly dislike... if you don't like Facebook or social media... don't use it, if other people do like it... leave them alone"

I am in a position to be able to compare present with the past. I believe we are going backwards and I think the internet is a Pandora's box. We are not biologically designed for this kind of dependence. We need science. We need challenge, risk and curiosity. People need to get out of their bedrooms and go out and be creative, take risks, man offices and do skilled work again. Instead of relying on automated systems, buying on Ebay and communicating only on Flopbook, as it were. We have a real problem with this automated lifestyle because people are turning into automatons. It's like the Elois race in H.G. Well's Time Machine. It's strangely ironic that the very key to advancement - technology - can be the cause of lethargy, passiveness, unemployment and overall decline. Simply because machines are tools and not a substitute for initiative.

Just to address Miss Chief's observation:
"These devices prevent an attack until a launch code has been sent by the chiefs of staff on behalf of the U.S. president. The Ministry of Defence chose not to install equivalent devices on Vanguard submarines ....."
It seems there was ultimate control by the US Government but I concede this seems to have changed. Neither can I say for sure if the UK does have an actual nuclear capability. That's a mystery. There were H bomb tests in the 1950's using planes but, to my mind, only Russia and America developed ICB's and anti missile defence during the Cold War. The fact Europe was inactive led to inevitable dependency on America today. Same goes for technology. Both Russia and China are developing a new internal internet system to eliminate American control. Same goes for Russian domestically produced microchips.
And to go back to the thread (porn). I honestly don't bother with it. I do like erotic movies like Roman Polanski's Bitter Moon because it had a personality dynamic and a D/s theme. I find all this internet porn to be as related to sex as rap is to music - (even boring).
Witchcraft - I have a film called Horror Hotel that's pretty good. Christopher Lee in it (about 1963). I have had some genuine experience of it as witchcraft was deeply established in Estonia where I lived. By all accounts, the girls in the class where I taught claimed to have made some puppet in my likeness to work spells on. I don't think it worked.

First of all it is Chief not Chef, secondly to be fair your thread was pretty much dead and the debate I started was precisely because it was unrelated to this thread. It is not political and it certainly isn't a feud. To be honest I don't see much point in debating Dr-David (in this or any thread) since he always ignores the points I make and merely states new unrelated points and I had stopped commenting on this thread until you posted this :P

Hmmmm, does "ignore" mean "not yield the debate".
I need to point out I am not a real doctor. Dr Banner is a fictional character who undergoes a startling metamorphisis. His shirts rip although his pants always seem to hold.

Being by nature respectful, I will now try and steer David's thread back on course, although it does seem to be a multiple themed heading. Then me and Miss Chef can stay on track.
Wicca. The Druids practised these pagan beliefs even prior to the invasion of Claudius (may have been 50 AD or around). It was also a tribal society and in some of these The Druids were an elite priesthood.
They may even have spoken Greek.

Not sure exactly where Wicca is illegal. Apart from the films, I am not really into pagan religions. I would recommend Theosophy which has some connection to teachings in Tibet.

Those were my sentiments. Sex boils down to a whole spectrum of appetites (sometimes perversions or criminal stimulae). At the end of it all is simple procreation.
It's better to spend time educating yourself or making music. Of course, sex is the same as hunger or thirst. It's the body telling you to procreate.
Too much chocolate makes you fat. Too much time looking at stuff on the internet leads to distraction.

In 1959 Hitchcock films were subject to censorship. As were other films such as Cape Fear. Even The Beatles "I Am The Walrus" was banned on radio. Society was still conservative in many ways. With IT people can view material that's risky. I mean, the sexual act reduced to just that alone (as in porn), isn't even sexy. To me what was always sexy was a D/s theme with erotic elements. Like having a super attractive female boss who takes control. In Japan women there read a lot of erotic literature and it's quite artistic. These days my attitude to sex is real encounters are better if they come your way but life is short to be overly concerned about porn and watching it.
Did anyone ever recall that story about Joyce Mckinney and the Mormon priest? That was once a big story. It got many men a bit steamed up as, on the surface, it was like many mens' fantasy scenario. A priest was kidnapped by an infatuated beauty queen who made him lose his virginity and break his vows.

I believe it is because people find it kinky. I used to watch man on horse porn but I stopped do to I did not want to contribute to the rape of animals.. Now I just go to furry websites when that kink acts up!

May I ask what girl on horse porn mean? Does it literally mean what it sounds like, a girl having sex with a horse? :/ I don't meant to offend anyone, but that sounds disgusting to me.

Also, I could believe that people could find that attractive, I could never, but I could believe it because there's such a thing as anal sex and a lot of people find that attractive. A lot. Yet, I don't. I don't mean to offend anyone with this just sharing my thoughts. The reason why I find it disgusting is because the asshole is where sh*t comes out from. As such, I also know people find it attractive to see girls sh*t, so there's that too. Another disgusting thing in my eyes, but apparently for some reason which is unknown to me, it isn't for some. I guess as has been mentioned that it doesn't harm others then to each their own.

I agree. I find the idea disgusting, and for the same reason. That can't be hygienic, even with a condom.
