    New Here

Hi. My name is Lanie. I just joined and wanted to introduce myself. I'm 23 and live in Texas. The most important thing about me is that I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. My religion is everything to me and helps me deal with my disabilities. I'm blind, have the form of autism known as PDD-NOS, and struggle with several chronic illnesses, but I believe God gave them to me for a reason. Right now, I'm living with my family and taking college classes online since my disabilities make traveling very hard. I'm studying for a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology specializing in software and web development. I would like to meet other people with any form of autism, anyone who has multiple disabilities like I do, and anyone who shares my faith or interests.

    College Interview Tips

I have my college interview next Wednesday. Does anyone have any tips for staying calm, making a good impression, or anything else you think would be helpful? Thank you in advance.

    College Application Approved!

Great news, I received an email to say that my application had been approved and I have an interview two weeks from today! This is such a relief. The thought of just staying at home or doing some other course I have no interest in was really getting me down lately. Tomorrow will also be my last full day of school. They're asking that I come in for another two days aside from exams next week, but they've changed their plans on me too many times now, and all of my coursework will be finished by tomorrow, so I'd no doubt be doing pointless busy work anyway. Screw that place. Only a matter of hours to go.

    College Visit

I just came back from an informal college visit about an hour ago, and it went really well! The support worker was someone I'd already met and she was very friendly and relaxed. I had a tour of everywhere I'd be going regularly, and the atmosphere was far less hostile, chaotic and formal. I also know two Aspies from my school who have done the same course I've applied for, and it has worked out well for them both. When I knew them, they were very unhappy people. It turns out that there have been a few problems this year and most people haven't received responses when they should have, so I should receive another email to say when I should expect to hear about my application. I'm now absolutely sure that this is the correct path for me, and I'm going to apply for another course even if I'm not accepted. I've met all of the requirements for entry and I was probably one of the first to apply, so I see no reason why I wouldn't at least be called in for an interview. Being afflicted with social anxiety and being so used to disappointment makes me assume the worst and worry irrationally. It looks amazing and I really can't wait to get out of my current situation now.

    An Update On School Situation...

Hi all, I have some good news. I had my transition meeting today, and there is now a plan for the next two years: I'll only go to school twice a week and go to college three days a week. At college, I'll likely be doing a Digital Media Computing course, which will then lead on to something more specialised in the years to come. I'll be going on a college visit in a few months, which I look forward to, and I will also be dropping a subject to study web design here for the time being. Next year, I'll start going to a club for Autistic people over the age of sixteen which I've mentioned before, so I may end up meeting a couple of people from Asperclick next year too. I will be doing a course specifically for building confidence and relaxing in social situations at some point, and the new club will undoubtedly help wit this too. So, if everything goes according to plan, I'll only be in high school full-time for another seven months. I don't mind only doing it for two days a week, and I may not be in a proper class for all of the subjects I continue to do here. I'm absolutely delighted about all of this. For the first time in almost a year, I'm feeling something close to happiness. I have changed the background of my avatar today. The last one had a prison cell which signified that I felt trapped with no way out. The new one has a night sky, which signifies that there is a light at the end of all of this. Thank you to everyone who's tried to support me. I know I'm not always the most pleasant person to deal with when I'm depressed.
