There are two sides to me with cars, one is I go for the shape of which the seventies Celica and late sixties Mustang had and then there is the side of me that goes for special purpose vehicles hence Land- Rover and VW camper where now the Clio was just a cheap car to get me back on the road, but if my plans work out am going back to he camper where I will be looking for a type 25/3 VW Syncro 16 high top, as dual purpose I need.

Another Japanese car of the time that was nice was the Datsun 240z but that had more European styling. Where now everything comes out of the same drag coefficient computer and manufacturers have to dare to be different to separate themselves from the rest.

Now you're talking!!  I LOVE old land rovers and the big joke around my place is that I really, really, really want to get an old Defender.  This stems back from being a kid and remembering my grandad's old bright yellow defender... I loved that thing and thought it was a thing of beauty, even though everyone else thought it was a hulking great box.

I always say, if i was rich that'd be my dream ... to get one of those and do it up or get it done up.  A VW camper is also up there... my brother's girlfriend also really likes these and in fact, she received a lego version for Christmas.

I tend to like more boxy looking cars I guess... although my love of my Celica shall always stay with me... and I wonder if that's why I kind of like my Countryman... not so round as most of the cars on the road these days, and nice and chunky.

The Countryman I believe is a fraudulent vehicle as look at the interior space compared to actual width of the car, it is no mini by a long shot, but that is what has happened with so called mini cars they have all got bigger, even the once diminutive Fiat 126, it's modern incarnation is massive in comparison and my Clio sat next to a late model is smaller in height and length.

The VW dub I want is four wheel drive and the 16 is a beefed up 4wd in that it has taller wheels 16 inch and underbody protection. See after having a Land-Rover and a camper I now wish to combine the two as a long term plan I had and may still have if things go the way I want them to go is to cross the Sahara and have given up on my plan to use a 2CV Accadiane, which would do it as they are very capable, but I like Vee dubs.

Ohhhh my poor Countryman... fancy calling it fraudulent!! :P  No, I do get your point.  It isn't a mini in the purest sense, but are the new minis compared to those of years before?

Imagine a hybrid... a 4wd VW isn't a bad compromise.  That'd be amazing... I could imagine you setting off on such an adventure.

Ok, I'll admit, I was a sad teen and I remember there was this guy who lived by my aunt's back home... looking back he was probably really rather an attractive bloke, not much older than myself, but what did I see?  His convertible VW with sheepskin seat covers... oh how I wanted that car!!  I was told that that was not a car of dreams... hmm... looking back I see no problem with that!!

Put yourself back on the wheel. Get a sports license and win Formula 1. That'll give you back the nerve.

Motorsport is substiatially different from driving on the road, especially for personal/non-commercial use. Have there been any cases of motorsport champions not being good drivers on public roads. On the race track, there are no speed limits, no intersections (thus no traffic lights or stop/give way signs), and everybody tries to push ahead of everybody else. And it is fenced off from all pedestrians. And here's food for thought, nearly all racing drivers are men, and technically minded men for than matter and while compotent, at least on the race track, women (who are on average more empathetic) are on average safer drivers on public roads, at least if the use is non-commercial with no element of hire or reward in the vehicle use.

I can't drive. I panicked in my lessons too much so I gave up for now. Chris turns 21 this year and will have been driving over 3 years, so I can slap and L plate on our car and go nuts, so long as Chris is with me. Looking forward to that...in our brand new saloon.

So I've partly owned all the cars we have, despite not being able to drive them.

But when you go anywhere by car, you usually go where Chris is going.

Yes but one day we'll have kids and they might need to go different places at the same time, so I want to be able to drive, also for emergencies. :)

Thats true and if you cant drive in this modern times it is very difficult especially as public transport is so unreliable. The trouble is unless you a secure job and a high income getting a car is a luxury these days rathet than a nessesity. A lot of people have had to get rid of there cars as they cant afford them but like you said if you have children you will need two cars. Hope your businesses do well so you dont have a problem with your dreams.

I drive a big, old Mercedes E class automatic with 150,000 on the clock.

Previously I have had a Mercedes C class, volvo 940 estate, Volvo 740 estate, a Citroen BX estate and a Ford Fiesta.

6 cars in 30+ years of driving.

I am not a big fan of changing cars so tend to keep cars until they are uneconomical to keep on the road or until I total them in a crash (I've done that a few times !!)

At the moment Nissan Navara, but I've had in chronological order:Citroen ZX, Freelander, Citroen C5, and Nissan Navara. I don't like small cars much.
