What Is NT?

Neurotypical syndrome is a neurobiological disorder characterized by preoccupation with social concerns, delusions of superiority, and obsession with conformity.

Neurotypical individuals often assume that their experience of the world is either the only one, or the only correct one. NTs find it difficult to be alone. NTs are often intolerant of seemingly minor differences in others. When in groups NTs are socially and behaviorally rigid, and frequently insist upon the performance of dysfunctional, destructive, and even impossible rituals as a way of maintaining group identity. NTs find it difficult to communicate directly, and have a much higher incidence of lying as compared to persons on the autistic spectrum.

NT is believed to be genetic in origin. Autopsies have shown the brain of the neurotypical is typically smaller than that of an autistic individual and may have overdeveloped areas related to social behavior.

How Common Is It?

Tragically, as many as 9625 out of every 10,000 individuals may be neurotypical.

Are There Any Treatments For NT?

There is no known cure for Neurotypical Syndrome.

However, many NTs have learned to compensate for their disabilities and interact normally with autistic persons.

About This Site

This site is an expression of autistic outrage.

About a year ago I learned I was on the autistic spectrum. Inspired by this discovery, I read everything I could get my hands on about the autistic spectrum. Much of it makes sense-- for the first time in 41 years, I had a description, albiet an unexpected one, that fit me.

But a lot of what I've found out there, mostly written by "experts" and "professionals", has been arrogant, insulting, and just plain wrong. My bête noire of the moment is finding my emotions described as "flat". As someone with considerably greater expertise in my emotions than the "experts", I can state unequivocally that my emotions are not "flat". They are different, yes, but they are most certainly not "flat."

Perhaps tomorrow I'll be fired up over being described as "lacking empathy". Or I'll be outraged at an exceptionally clueless "training" method being inflicted upon autistic kids. Or maybe it will be some new paper written by some "expert" from the perspective that neurotypical perception is correct, and my brain is a genetic mistake.

My brain is a jewel. I am in awe of the mind that I have. I and my experience of life is not inferior, and may be superior, to the NT experience of life.

Hence, this "Institute". Persons on the autistic spectrum and NT supporters are invited to submit papers to the Institute, and to share your observations in "Current Research" (the guestbook).

Haha! That is funny!

Although we need NT's as well as Aspies so I am not on the side of the debate that they are useless.

I like that and agree with it too. Just one way of judging them as they judge us both are right both are wrong its all perspective. However it shows the divisions that are there and most likely will be for some time.

I wish it wasn't so as well but unless I took that attitude and got help I wouldnt have a job as we were two sides around a table. Cant see it practically changing until all people change to be as one.

It's pretty much what I've been saying for a while now. What if it's not the people on the spectrum that are "wrong" but it just happens that the NT population is in fact the anomaly, but just because it's the majority it's becoming the norm.

I know a great deal of (presumable) aspies and I never had any issues with any of them, I got along with them fine (it's the NT folks I tend to butt heads with all too often; and to boot about things that make sense to me, and later if I tell any of my aspie friends, makes sense to them). That theory might reinforce the fact that similar groups might get along just fine and without any major issues that are part of their condition and thus why NT folks tend to have built a system that works mostly for them and ended up disregarding the relative small anomaly called ASD.

It's always seemed pointless to me to counter generalizations, condescension, and prejudice with more of the same. Doesn't it just deepen the us vs them divide to start pointing fingers and calling others obsessed with conformity or not able to be alone (or much worse)?

Prejudice and misinformation is the enemy and what needs to be torn down. No matter how common it is, I've never wanted to be associated with attacking people and not ideas, or taking swings at anyone in the same general classification as the troublemakers. I don't want to kick other groups or push them around just because I'm angry abut some or about a lack of understanding.

That feels terrible to me. I don't want to call Christians mindless, hatemongering sheep whose beliefs need to be wiped from the Earth (as someone I know does) because my stepfather was a cruel one, and make nice Christians feel bad or like I'm against them. I certainly don't want the more progressive and thoughtful ones who are writing and reading articles about the negative effects of machismo and the inferiority of women on their religion and relationship with God to pay for someone else's actions against me. I don't want the same for NTs, either.

I've watched people insult and belittle others over everything from religion to culture to neurodiversity, and I've yet to see anyone change their mind rather than put their guard up when the insults and generalizations come out. I write, and I hope through fiction people can see the aspects of others that they're missing in real life and vicariously absorb new experiences. I especially hope it's true for those who are young enough to incorporate these new things into the fundamentals of their worldview.

Hi coffeebean, first of thanks for taking the time to explain your point, In my opinion, a lot of AS people are victims of this kind of prejudice from the NT folks, In my personal experience realising this and seeing it so transparently has helped me cope with life outside my house to a certain extent. A lot of AS folks are too trusting and can't see when people have agendas or ulterior motives and also too honest and their honesty is often used against them. This understanding of NT may sound rude and obstructive however in my opinion its a way to guard ourselves and be safe. Also its kind of meant as a joke too, sorry if it offended you.
