They piss me off and I piss them off. Even if I go in the living room for a minute, I basically get told to leave because I'm irritating them. I find what they watch boring anyway, though....I just stay on my own where I am comfortable!

Aww that's a shame, what do you do that irritates them and vice versa?  I'm just trying to understand how each of you feel.

I'm not very sure, I think I talk or laugh when they are trying to watch something, my mum has said things like "Now, we are watching this Sophie so you are going to have to leave if you're going to be like that!" I guess her saying stuff like that is what irritates me

It's sometimes okay if it's just us when my brother is doing something else or in bed, but I do get bored still and leave the room.

Well if you are talking or laughing about what you're all watching then that's not that bad, when Harry decides he wants to talk during the film it's normally because he's asking a question about it, I normally answer him quick or I just say 'well if you shut up you'll find out' :P  lol.  He can sit through a film quite easily and when we go to the cinema he never makes a sound. :D Sometimes he'll come down and have a chat and then goes back upstairs because he's not interested in what we're watching.

No, I am probably talking about irrelevant things as I am not interested in what they are watching it. Sometimes I try to go in and have a chat but I get bored very quickly. I am better on my own, it avoids arguments. (She's only been back, not even 24 hours and already pissing me off!) I am a bit of a failure today, I feel like crying.

You could cry if you like. It should release some hormones which will make you feel a bit better :)

I can relate to this - my mum and brother, or mum on her own watch tv in the living room, but usually soap operas or celebrity shows - ugh!!! and never things I'm interested in too, so I get bored and go into my room to watch something else. I irritate them not by talking but by turning the sound down everytime the ads come on because they drive me insane!!! Then I get criticism for being antisocial and sutting myself in my room. i much prefer to watch things online or on DVD. I don't watch many films though, usually documentaries or series such as Star Trek.

I thought, we have a thread on music, books, hobbies, and films you grew up with and others similar, so why not a films thread? I'm not actually much of a film watcher. Normally I either get completely consumed by the film that I've watched and obsess over it, but more often I get bored halfway through. I seem to have quite an unusual way of deciding if ill watch a film or not, most people I know just watch it and then decide if its good. I rarely do this without significant reccomendations from someone.

I very recently saw "How to train your dragon" and I am convinced the writer based his dragons on kittens. I loved it, despite me not usually liking films. I also saw pitch black, which was quite good. When I was younger I got bored with films, and didn't understand even films like Cinderella, which I had been read the book of so should have understood it. I still have no patience for some films, particularly romance in films, it's so boring.

With books being turned into films..... I love and hate then at the same time. I saw Harry potter and the philosophers stone before I read any of the books, and it is the only film I can accept the differences/cuts from the book, because they missed so many important plot points out of particularly the later ones. Most people I know who only watch happy potter not read don't have a clue what happened really. At the same time, I love the films because they are part of a book that I enjoyed, and I can see the characters which fixes my mental image of them for rereading the book.

Another thing is the soundtrack of films - sometimes I will obsess over the soundtrack which eventually leads me to watch the film. This happened to me to get me to watch inception, and I think it will make me watch Brave at some point too!

Anyone like films? What films? How often do you watch films?

I like films, thought don't watch them too often anymore.  I like watching movies of books I really liked just because I really liked the book.. and even though they almost always leave a lot of things out (which is upsetting), I still like seeing the characters and story on the screen.. haha  I watched the first three Harry Potter movies before reading the first book, and then I read them all before the 4th movie I think.. I didn't mean to get into it.. but my sister got them for her birthday and I started reading the first one one day, and then the next.. and before I knew it I was wondering where the 6th book was but it wasn't made yet!! lol :P

I'm not really hugely into films either but I have a small selection of favourite films which I really love and can watch over and over and still love them the same. I find they are films which other people don't seem to like as much. My all-time favourite film is 'About a Boy', from 2002, starring Hugh Grant. I find that I relate to the film so much and I feel that, each time I watch it despite having seen it numerous times, I can always take something new from it! Others of my favouries are - The Pursuit of Happyness, Riding in Cars with Boys, Garden State & A Beautiful Mind. I also really like Napoleon Dynamite, which is a comedy that I just find hilarious!

I also enjoy sci-fi films, such as the Star Trek films and the X-Men films.

I like the Disney & Pixar films more now than I am older too. I have recently watched Tangled a lot. I used to have a bit of an obsession with Pixar animation.

So, I guess I like a variety of different films but I'm not really all that into films. I find it difficult to sit down and stay focused on an entire film length and I'm terrible at following storylines! My concentration and attention is bad for films!

With books being turned into films, I find that if I have read the book first, I will find it a lot easier to follow the film because I know the story and I know what is roughly going to happen. However, if the film isn't as good as the book (for example, 'The Golden Compass') it's really disappointing :( Sometimes, I don't want to watch a film in case it ruins the story for me!

I have "About a Boy", it is really quite good. :D  I also watched Pursuit of Happyness and Napoleon Dynamite and they were good too.  And Disney/Pixar movies are great!  I agree about the film version of Golden Compass not being as good as the book though. :(

Ah the golden compass.biggest letdown of 2007. His dark materials did not deserve such a terrible representation in film.

Agreed, it wasn't the greatest movie at all.

Really?  It's an actual movie?  I saw this somewhere.. maybe on my newsfeed.. and thought it was a joke or something.  That would be cool if it's going to be an actual movie.  I liked Finding Nemo.. although my high school English teacher played parts over and paused it here and there, so we could analyse it.. but it was really good. :D
