http://www.wikihow.com/Get-a-Good-Reputation-on-the-First-Day-of-School-(for-Girls)

It isn't specifically meant for aspies but it tells you what NT's look for when they judge people. It is meant for girls but a lot of these tips apply to guys. If you ignore the school setting I am sure you can apply a lot of these tips for work, social gatherings etc.

Good luck everybody, I hope it helps.

Obviously this wasn't written for me, I'm both finished school and college and not a female. But I do want to thank you for linking it in anycase because I do believe it's still helpful. Sometimes we forgot been ourself and maybe following a few simple rules is still the best way to deal with life and often as inherently been different we forgot that

I'm not very good at conforming to things like dress code and appearance code, I don't even know what they are a lot of the time, but unfortunately most people seem to notice these and find them important. I always dress for comfort, I think that it is of greater value to feel comfortable than to look good. I do think that personal hygiene is important though, I wouldn't like to turn up at my first day at work smelling because I didn't take a shower and my clothes smell or with bad breath.

I haven't had a good experience with WikiHow in the past. It's one of those sites that I avoid, along with HowStuffWorks and About.com. Most of the content is written by people who don't actually know what they're talking about.

Really i dont like the fact its trying to force every women to wear make up and i feel like its telling people to go with the trends instead of letting people have the choice :/

not every women needs to wear make up so thats a bit stupid to put down as a must do for someone to like you

and the clothes part dont get me started on that.....

@DebzMata08I agree with you that if a girl doesn't want to where make up she shouldn't and people should wear what they want to wear. But even though the article is saying that I don't think it has to be interpreted that way. What I gathered is a long as you try and make an effort at been yourself and feel comfortable in your own shoes. People will respect you

People tend to flock with people that look like them. The first day of any social situation you kind of want to fit in. If you look like them they will act like you are one of them. You especially would not want your teachers or managers to see you as difficult from the get go. I would use this as a general checklist for the big event. Once you get acquainted on their terms you can introduce them to your style. The article actually seems against makeup but is recognizing that the norm is with. If you dress different, people will leave you alone. Since you want friends, it makes sense to dress the way your target group dresses. You are you no matter how you dress but if you smell like them and dress like them they might investigate and become a friend.

I understand that this is an article mostly aiming to get people to conform to a social norm, but if you are a person like me who really struggles even recognising that certain norms exist it is nice to have a check list. Especially concerning hygiene stuff. I hope that posting this did not make anyone feel bad about themselves. Please realise this is for support for the people whlo strive to be recognised amongst these social "normal" groups, if you don't care for recognition, then you have overcome a pinnacle of social pressures and should be proud of yourself :)

I am rather dependant on these, unfortunatly. Do you have any alternative sites to recommend that provide you with more realistic solutions?

It depends on what you are trying to find out. Usually I would advise trying to find a specialist site on the topic, some of which include tutorials or links to other sites giving instructional materials. You could also try changing the way you phrase your search queries: instead of searching for "how to wear makeup appropriately" and reading a WikiHow article, you could search "what makeup is appropriate" and read a discussion on a teenage girl's forum, or you could search "popular makeup" and find an article from a fashion blog/magazine. Sometimes I can learn a lot just by reading a Wikipedia article on the topic, or you could search Wikibooks and see if they've got an ebook on the topic as those are normally quite informative (although don't cover a wide range of topics).

Also note that I should have included eHow in my other post; I knew there was another one of those sites but I couldn't remember what it was called.
