Breast Cancer

Recommended Posts

Nesf

I haven't been around here for a couple of months, because I was diagnosed with breast cancer, and have been struggling to cope. I have gone through hell with the anxiety, medical examinations and scans, hospital visits and a stay in hospital for surgery, and the general upheaval and disruption it has caused in my life. In two days time I have to have chemotherapy, and I'm extremely anxious about the drugs, especially Taxere, and their side effects.

I was wondering if anyone else has been through anything similar?

I haven't gone through anything like that, but I'm so sorry :(.  I will send prayers and positive thoughts in your direction.

Oh no @Nesf.  I am so sorry you are going through this!  I don't have much experience with that either, so I can't be of much help sadly.  I will pray and send positive thoughts your way as well.  You could research online if you haven't already, see if there are non-drug interventions you could do alongside treatment.  I hope you are okay and I hope the cancer goes away for you.

Gone away

@Nesf You were certainly missed.

No experience and likewise sending positive thoughts. I hope the anxiety reduces.

I guess you just need to trust - I hope the longer term prognosis is favourable

I was wondering how you were doing as well. I am saddened by this news.

My old hair dresser was diagnosed with the same illness. This was maybe ten years ago and she's still around.

I hope you get through this.

I'm so sorry to hear this @Nesf  - you have been through so much, you're very brave and strong - even if you don't feel it, you are. I wish there was something I could do to help. Are you still in Greece? If there is anything you need sending over that will cheer you up, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

@Nesf I wondered where you were, too. Like everyone else, I'm extremely sorry that you're going through this. This is truly is sad. :( I remember you were going through some money troubles before your absence and I thought of something right now. If we could somehow send you some money to your paypal so that the least of your worries is money right now. I know that perhaps you don't agree with this, but just want to help and show my support the best I can. You are a wonderful person and it hurts me to see you suffer like this and if I can make it one stress less then I am more than willing. I can send some money your way, it won't be much, but I want to help and I'm sure that others would be willing to donate some money to you, too. If this is too stressful, you can just ignore it. The least I want is to add another stress. Nevertheless, I'm sorry again. And if you need anything please don't hesitate to ask here. We all love you. With love and care, Makelets.

Thank you all so much for your words of encouragement and support!

The prognosis is good; the cancer is in its early stages - stage I, grade II and localised to a tumour in my breast which has now been removed. It has not spread to the lymph nodes or anywhere else in my body. I will be given chemotherapy, radiotherapy and hormone treatment to reduce the risk of a re-occurrence of the cancer. The doctors tell me that I'm likely to make a full recovery if I have the treatment. I'm dreading the chemo. I don't know how my body is going to react to it and how I'm going to cope with all the nasty side effects. I've heard so many scary stories about it and its side effects

@Willow Yes, I'm still in Greece. I'm having treatment at a hospital in Athens specialised in the treatment of cancer. The hospital is a very stressful environment to be in, especially for a person on the spectrum, but the doctors and staff are generally very understanding, patient and helpful. Thank you for offering to send something to cheer me up. I don't need anything to cheer me up, I just need to try and get through this in one piece and to regain my full health.

@Going home I experienced very severe anxiety when I found the lump in my breast and was told that it was malignant. I wasn't coping at all. I wasn't sleeping and I was feeling sick all the time, vomiting. I wasn't able to work.I visited a psychiatrist and I'm now taking antidepressants and that has helped to reduce the anxiety considerably.

@Live&LetLive Thank you for your kind offer and words of support, but you don't need to send me any money. Luckily, my treatment is covered by the national health system in this country, so I don't have to pay for the treatment, I'm able to work so far so I have enough money to live on.
