I used to have crazy long, natural hair:

And then one summer I got it cut. No big deal. But then I got diagnosed with an under active thyroid and fibromyalgia, and that, plus the medication for that, can affect hair quality and hair growth. So after nearly 2 years my hair hasnt grown at all. The latter 6 months of that time I had made a conscious effort and spent a lot of money to try and help my hair grow and be healthy...to absolutely no avail. Each time I was getting a trim it was just getting shorter because it hadn’t grown in between cuts.

Now, I’m mostly happy with they way I look. Yes, I’ve put weight on, but with my health working against me there too I feel I’m doing okay, all things considered. And I was too thin a few years ago anyway. But my hair...I missed my long hair so much! I’d had it cut thinking it’d be shorter for a while and then it’d grow back and I’d keep it long again. But no such luck. Knowing that it would pretty much never be long again (the ends were always brittle and breaking anyway, so it would have struggled to stay long even if it grew) I decided to get hair extensions. It’s a huge purchase and something I never normally would have ever thought about. But my hair became a major source of depressions and anxiety for me as the months passed by. Which sounds stupid but it’s true. I missed it SO much it actually would bring me to tears.

My extensions have brought my hair almost back to the length it was before and I couldn’t be happier with them. I feel 100% like myself again. I knew it was an issue for me but I hadn’t realized just how much better I would feel with my long hair again. My friend paid over half the cost of getting it done, because he knew how much it meant to me, and I could never afford it by myself. And I’m so grateful to him and the wonderful lady who put the extensions in for me.

I just thought I’d share! ☺️ Over here living my best damn life!!

@Willow That is so awesome! You look so happy! 😍 Thanks for sharing! I was actually looking at this girl who had very short and thin hair get hair extensions and how nice it looked after. It's so weird how you then talked about your hair extensions. The law of attraction seems very real.

It looks so nice and soft, looks like your natural hair! 😍 I've never had hair extensions so I don't know how they work but I saw the girl who got them and it looked painful, how they attach it to the hair. Is it painful for you?

@Willow These are the painful things I was talking about earlier in the video I had watched. Does your hair have those underneath your top hair or do they just use those temporarily and take them off later?

They were painful to get put in just because there was a lot of pulling on my hair - and they were painful the first night and day after. But they’re mostly fine now.

They don’t look quite like that. It’s called Cinderella Hair extensions if you want to look it up.

Heres what mine look like:

My hair is a bit greasy at the moment as I’m not allowed to wash it for another day (at least 48 hours after application).

Oh, yeah, you were a bit of 60's throwback for a while. I always thought that look suited you.

Listen to me, talking like Gok Wan... 💁‍♂️

@Willow I'm glad you found something to do about your hair that brings you joy. Ive had hair extensions before - I was lucky to win $1000 worth in my early 20s, I know how fun it is to have so much hair.

I was kinda guttered to see the comments towards yourself in the video about your body changes and its appearance - just with full compassion. There is no shame in the way your body is at all

Both of these women below have body-positive instagram accounts and books on the subject, which are really just about saying that all bodies are worthy and deserve to be treated with respect, dignity and kindness regardless of how they look - including how you treat yourself - which is just a conditioned thing from all the messages about the impossible standards women (and increasingly men) are supposed to live up to that have nothing to do with your worth. You may find this annoying or inappropriate - or think im judging you or something which I'm not, I wish someone had told me about this earlier

There is also The Beauty Myth, which is great as an audiobook by Naomi Wolf its only on audible as far as I know but its really worth listening to

I've never had my hair as long as you @Willow because I just can't deal. I have thick hair and it takes forever to dry after taking a shower but this thread has inspired me to challenge myself and let my hair grow as long as yours. It'd be like something new, a checkmark off a bucket list type of thing. I always end up cutting it but if I do cut it, it'll every two years or when I start seeing split ends.

@Willow You can get rid of your double chin by doing neck exercises, this takes away the fat accumulated in that area just be careful not to do them too long or too fast. You can look it up on YouTube. You have to do the exercises daily and you start seeing results after the first week. Edit: I thought I'd say, I only mentioned this because of what you said in your video (just so people don't think I looked at your picture or something and thought you had a double chin).
